Change of Staff at Gosport

We welcome Tom Scott to the Kemp Sails team and say farewell to Matt Atkins, as Tom takes over the Kemp Sails Gosport Service Loft.  Tom is a very keen sailor and is a qualified RYA Race Coach, actively working with the RYA Youth Squads to bring on the country's younger sailing talent.  Tom has campaigned Laser Dinghies at International Level and his racing knowledge and skills strengthen the Kemp Sails team.

Matt is going to work with our longstanding colleagues at C&J Marine in Chichester, and will continue the association with Kemp Sails as the two companies continue to work closely together on many mutual projects.   We wish Matt Good Luck!

 18/04/2017 - Technical Sales Administrator (Wareham) - POSITION NOW CLOSED

Vacancy Information: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an administrator to work in a happy but busy office, within a successful sail making business, located in Wareham (very close to the Railway Station).

The role would suit a strong, accurate and focused administrator, ideally with an interest in sailing or yachting, as we have a varied and very technically diverse product range.

Job Description:  First point of contact for answering incoming telephone calls with friendly, bubbly manner and answering basic queries.
Receipt of emails and distribution of same to sales team colleagues.
Administration of sales orders and accurate order processing. Invoicing of completed Sales Orders.
Order ‘Exit’ administration – i.e. ensuring orders leave on time and arrive with customers as agreed.
Scheduling van runs and recording delivery plans for driver.
Booking outgoing freight.
Filing and archiving order records.
Monitoring of Consignment stocks

Because of the very technical nature of the products and terminology; some Dinghy or Yacht sailing experience would be desirable.

Contract & Hours:  Full-time 9.00am - 5.30pm, Mon-Fri (with some occasional seasonal weekend work and overtime, possibly at Boat shows),

Excellent working conditions: Stakeholders Pension and benefits: Free on-site parking.

Pay: Hourly, Rate Dependent upon Experience.

21/03/2017 - Automated Cutting Table Operator / Sailmaker (Wareham) - POSITION NOW CLOSED

Vacancy Information: An exciting and unique opportunity NOW exists for a Cutting Table Operator (see website video for a look at the machine operating!).  The role is based in our busy Sail Loft in Wareham, Dorset.

 

Cutting Table OperatorThe role involves organising you work and fabrics, then operating a computer controlled Automated Cutting Machine and Handling Sailcloth and loading fabric rolls on and off the machine table - so there is some lifting involved.  The roll is a responsible one as the materials are often of high value - so accuracy and attention to detail are very important.  The role could be part-time or could be combined with some Sailloft work to make the role full-time, interesting and varied. There are good prospects for this role in the future, and for the right applicant.

Training for Cutting Table & Sail loft work will be provided.

It is essential that the successful applicant can show that they are able to work on their own initiative, manage their time efficiently and be a good communicator with clear written and verbal skills. They will be expected to work to agreed objectives in order to meet set targets and customers’ expectations. Although not essential, ideally they will have had some sailing experience, or have an interest in the Leisure Marine Industry.

Mike Perham with Kemp Sails succeeds as The Youngest Around the World Sailor

17 year-old British sailor Mike Perham has become the youngest person to sail single-handed around the world. His 50ft yacht Totallymoney.com  crossed the traditional Lizard/Ushant line marking the start and finish point of his 30,000 mile record-setting in bright sunshine at 09:47:30 secs (local)am this morning - two months inside the previous age record set by American teenager Zac Sutherland.

Aged 17 years, 164 days old the teenager from Potters Bar Hertfordshire, was escorted across the line by Royal Navy guard ship HMS Mersey, a helicopter from 771 Squadron at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, and a small flotilla of press boats that had been on standby overnight to record his finish.

Mike said: "I've made it, I've made my dream come true and it feels amazing. A BIG BIG thanks to my Dad, Mum, all the sponsors and every one who has helped me along the way.

I can't believe that the Royal Navy has sent HMS Mersey and a helicopter to witness my crossing the line. I feel very honoured."

Mike's Dad said: "Mike is a very special son, he has done incredibly well. He has shown that with determination, you can succeed even in the most adverse circumstances. He has shown the world that he is an extraordinary young man and an inspiration to us all."

The First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope, KCB OBE ADC passed a message to  Mike Perham as he sailed past The Lizard passed on a congratulatory message via Lt Cdr Carl Wiseman Captain of HMS Mersey:

“The Royal Navy offers its sincere congratulations to Michael Perham on his record breaking single-handed sailing circumnavigation. This is a remarkable and inspirational achievement in one so young, another impressive event in the rich Maritime history of this island nation and of the Perham family”.

“Michael’s family have strong maritime connections, with his father having been a merchant naval officer, his grandfather having served with the Royal Navy during World War 2, and his great grandfather as a Royal Marine in the Crimean war.”

“Michael sets a fine example showing remarkable character, grit and self discipline in completing this historic record-breaking voyage and the Royal Navy is delighted to participate in welcoming him back home to the UK as an honoured and much respected fellow seafarer.”
